“Climate Change Not Going to be Eliminated by Green Hydrogen Fuels”: 7 Reasons that Justify statements by researchers

Climate Change is the burning issue

There have been various climatic adversities in recent years in the world. Melting of Glaciers and Avalanches faced by mountainous countries, and rising sea levels of coastal regions are the consequences of this hazardous environmental deterioration.

Climate change is a basic phenomenon of irregularities in the natural cycles. The process is supposed to be controlled by using green hydrogen fuels to some extent instead of using fossil fuels.

Need for Green Hydrogen Fuels

Some researchers mention that the use of hydrogen as a fuel is a convenient way to control climatic disasters happening right in front of us in different parts of the world. Hydrogen fuels are considered to be very effective in gaining CO2 to control the concentration of gas in the atmosphere.

Huge amount of carbon dioxide gas is released every from industries all over the world which contributes a lot to Global warming and other climatic disorders.

Industries are the major sources of carbon footprints and contribute more than about 30% of global carbon emissions. The usage of hydrogen as a source of energy can be a milestone for the energy revolution.

Life Cycle of Green Hydrogen

Green hydrogen is produced by the electrolysis of water using electricity. When electricity is passed through the water for a certain time it dissociates into Hydrogen and Oxygen. The hydrogen is called “Grey Hydrogen”.

Thus produced hydrogen gas can be used as the raw material for the green hydrogen fuel. During the process of splitting of water, only oxygen is produced not CO2. Some researchers also urge the commercial production of Green

Hydrogen fuel consumes large amounts of green energy.

Transportation of Hydrogen Fuel

Along with the production, transportation is also another challenge in promoting green hydrogen fuel. The transportation is technically challenging and uses a lot of fuel.

Transportation of this fuel over long distances creates the same emission of CO2 as that of fossil fuel. For short distances pipeline transport seems favorable and shipping is the best option for long distances.

The green fuel vessel cells are themselves very expensive to afford, which may limit their availability.

Expensive technology

The process of green fuel production encompasses a level of skilled human resources and resources it consumes. The fuel can be difficult to produce and the establishment of a plant requires huge capital resources too.

The infrastructure for hydrogen fuelling stations is also very limited in the number.

Safety issues

Hydrogen gas is a highly inflammable gas. The fuel should be handled very carefully during transportation and storage. Vehicles using these types of fuels are always at risk of explosion due to minor defects or problems.

Efficiency of fuel

The fuel is not considered as highly efficient as that of fossil fuel. The process of producing hydrogen from renewable sources and again changing to electric power is not that efficient.

In comparison to the efficiency of hydrogen-powered vehicles, it may not be as robust as fossil fuel-powered vehicles as well as EVs.
